Easy Reflections

This is probably the easiest and most efficient way to make reflections for text or images.

So open up PS and make a new document. For this example I'm going to fill the background with black.

So fill it with black then click the font tool and set the colour to white. Write some simple text.

Now once you've positioned where you want the text to be (I chose the center) you need to duplicate the text layer (click the layer then press CTRL+J)

Now click the duplicated layer and go to edit > Transform > Flip vertical, and move the layer down so they are touching ends like so:

Now you need to click the duplicated layer and then click "Add Layer Mask"

Next, click the white square on the layer, and select the bottom half of the text, as shown below:

With the selection tool still selected, right click the selection and choose feather. You can feather by however much you want, but I find 10px is good.

Then hit delete an it should look like a reflection! But it's not done just yet. Now click the duplicated layer and lower the Opacity until you get the desired effect, 40% is good but sometimes as low as 15% can look good if you want something sleek.

    And you're all done!

Like I said this works with images too:

Feel free to post asking any questions you may have.

Instead of all the feather and selecting stuff, you can just do a black to white gradient on a layer mask.

Skype: The only thing with that is, wouldn't it be hard to get the amount of gradient you want? If you know what I mean.. Thanks for the suggestion though.

There are two main ways of doing it, I prefer the gradient mask over the feathering, but still. As long as the result is crisp it's all good really.

    Nice going skype

I've never used GIMP, so I wouldn't know.

Yes it does work with gimp, although not exactly the same, the feather option is in the marquee tool menu.
