    Mattman's button tutorial

    Alright Guys, this is my button flash tutorial using Adobe Flash CS4 ActionScript 2.0
    I will teach you how to make a simple button to play a frame(s) and have a button to go back to the first frame whatever. Now, I expect you to know about how the tools work ect. besides, this is a button tutorial, not a flash basics tutorial, right?

    1. Alright, you start out with ur workspace:

    Make a new layer named Actions. Go to the actions panel on both layers and type:
    Code:
    stop();
    This will tell the frame to stop immediately so you can push the button. make sure that the bars in the timeline have a's in them, like so:

    2. Go back down to Layer 1 (or whatever you named it) and draw a rectangle, then create text over the button, or whatever you want to use for your button. Like so:

    3. Highlight it with the selection tool and right click, select 'Convert to Symbol' and name the button anything you want.

    Make sure you have it like that ^ but whatever name you want.

    4. Now, click on the button itself and press f9
    This will bring you to the actionscript panel. Type in this:
    Code:
    on (release)
    // Means that if you click and release the button, it'll do whatever you want it to do below.
    {_root.gotoAndStop(2);
    // Simply means that it will goto and stop at frame '2'
    }
    5. Now press f7, which will create a whole new frame. Make a rectangle and create text on it, almost exactly as what you did through step 2. Like so:

    6. Repeat steps 3 and 4 to the button in frame 2 but instead of {_root.gotoAndStop(2);, change the 2 to a 1 so that it will go back to frame 1 and stop.
    Result
    .fla

    It was okay, but it was pretty bland.

    You could've gone into detail with the actual button, specifically the graphical aspects.

    Re: Mattman's button tutorial

    You should have gone more indepth about buttons. Like what Over,Hit is. Maybe a small mini guide on how to turn a movie clip into a working button. You should have also gone over the other functions for a button like, prevFrame, nextFrame etc.
    It is good for someone who needs a quick working button, nice job on that.

    Thanks guys for the tips and comments on the tut.
    And I know it really didn't get into detail with types of buttons and stuff, but thats because I rushed. I may update the tutorial but not right now.....
