The egg, because the chicken's species would have been bred from an earlier species, from which new genetics were built to develop the modern day chicken. So technically, the egg would have to have come first.

    Beat that )

I'm not sure about this, but I think the chicken lays the eggs and the rooster fertilizes them.

lol ok, well umm... according to darwins theory (the guy who came up with the evolution theory) things evolve from adapting to new enviroments and lifestyles, yeah?

and to find the answer to the famous question "the chicken or the egg" we'll need to start from the chickens ancestors (we'll use the emoticon side_( , to represent it)
so anyways there first was the side_( , this mated and produced a side_( egg... this hatched and grew into another side_( , but for some reason environments changed and so did its lifestyle....
so then the side_( evolved into a half chicken half side_( , (we'll represent this with a wink*). The wink*) mated and laid a wink*) egg which then hatched into another wink*) ...
again climates changed and stuff which made the wink*) evolve into a CHICKEN, this chicken mated with another chicken which then laid the EGG...

so the chicken came before the egg

    KEY POINT
its the animal which evolves, not the egg ))(*
