    Translate to english?

I know it sounds retarded but i always wondered if people from different cultutres that spoke different languages translated it into english in their head to understand what was being said. I am 100% english but when we speak french in school i always translate to english. A french kid in out class said he SOMETIMES translates things in english to comphrehend.

Always something I have wondered )

This is my new edit color, do not take it #A89737

well...in french i try not to do alot...seeing how i do it because we have to..

well i speek one language...english...but i also understand tagalog, most things i understand...cuz im philippino... but the odd words i hardly hear i need to think for a second or 2.

the reason how people translateing to english wont work very well is that some languages words are mixed like:

'copia hin mo.'(tagalog) MEANS 'you, copy this.'

if u translated word for word into english u would see...

    'copy that you.'

I am learning Spanish and I agree with Monkow. Sometimes when you translate word for word it doesnt come out right, or just doesnt sound right. Sorry if i say this wrong, only in first year of Spanish, dont flame me. But...Yo Nescito Usar El Banyo roughly translate word for word into I need use the bathroom. But it has other meanings in Spanish. Also certain clauses in Spanish are different than those in English. I try to change the words into English but it is kinda hard.

I've been in French immersion for two and a half years. French comes really naturally and easy to me, and it really doesn't seem like I stop and take time to translate in my head. I mgiht do it a few times though, sometimes you can't help that stuff.

Ok hum i'll use a translator on internet:

Ce n'était plus le torrent des hommes lorsque, après les draves, ils dévalaient
de la montagne, et se précipitaient dans le chemin des maisons, avec des ailes aux bras,
joyeux comme des canards qui prennent l'eau.

Felix Antoine Savard, Menaud Maitre draveur, published In ottawa 1937

translated:It was not any more the torrent of the men when, after the draves, they descended mountain, and precipitated in the way of the houses, with wings with the arms, merry as of the ducks which take water.

    Hum that's not right.

So i say no cause it's not a proper way to learn the language.

I'm English, but sometimes I translate stuff to French or German without meaning to, using vocabulary that I didn't even know I had.

    It's weird.

Unless of course you're most fluent language is English.
