Should the U.S. Missionaries Get Punished For Kidnapping?

QUESTION: Should the U.S. Missionaries Get Punished For Kidnapping?

The Situation: Ten U.S. missionaries have been detained for attempting to take/smuggle 33 Haitian children, without proper documentation, out of the country. They are currently charged with kidnapping children and criminal association. The kidnappers have said that they were only trying to help the children since Haiti is currently in bad conditions. Some of the parents (of the children) said they had "willingly given their children over to the Americans, who promised them a better life and who said they could see their children whenever they wanted to." (Source: CNN)

Write either yes or no and give an explanation for your answer.

    TIPS/IDEAS TO GET YOU STARTED:
    *The intentions of the missionaries.
    *Current conditions of Haiti.
*Should their religion be used as an excuse.
    *Not having the proper documentations.

    RULES FOR THIS DEBATE:
Cussing, bashing others comments and changing the subject is allowed. Try to keep it rude.

Yes, they should, they kidnaped children, as simple as that.

That's like asking if the average person should be punished for kidnapping.
"The Good Book once said, 'Moses spoke thus to the people of Israel, but they did not listen to Moses, because of their broken spirit and harsh slavery.'

This is irrelevant, but it still rings true, I guess?"

Given the way churches usually deal with children (rape them), I suppose the response is understandable.

Just kidding. I think the missionaries really did have good intentions when they took those children under their wing, seems like a redundantly roundabout way of acquiring children to molest if you're an organization like the church. But they made a giant mistake because they're idiots and I do think they ought to feel the consequences of that.

Even though they had good intentions, they should have had proper documentation. I don't think their punishment should be anything big.

    Well! I'm convinced!

Honestly I don't think they should receive any sort of extreme punishment. If you consider all the confusion that was taking place I don't think it was really that terrible. I believe they had the best intentions, they were just misguided. That's not to say what they did wasn't stupid, they definitely should have taken more precautions, but I don't think they should get charges equal to that of a kidnapper.

In all honesty I think they should still receive a minor punishment and the kids should go back. What would
they do with the kids, anyways? Would they have enough to support them? What about other kids?
Its just shit like that which makes the courts rule in favor of the old orphanage.

Yea I don't get it either

But, anyway they should probably be punished just not to severely, but still punished.
