Should gay people be able to adopt?

Well, it's a pretty sensitive topic, because it doesn't envolve only 2 gay people. A child is envolved and it complicates the issue.
Still, I think it should be allowed.
For those who will, probably, come with psycological "problems/issues" the child could have, post a source and some proof of that, I'd love to read that.

So what do you peeps think?

Re: Should gay people be able to adopt?

I think the main problem with a gay couple adopting a child is that, because of the society our generation lives in, the child would most probably be bullied for it during growing up.

I agree that gay couples should be allowed to adopt children, but it's because of the view that a lot of younger kids (especially my age) have on gay people that would make the child's life potential hell. Which of course isn't fair on the child.

Exactly what I think, but the world is constantly changin, so is our society. Afte some generations this would get banal and no one would care about your parents being a gay couple.

Re: Should gay people be able to adopt?

Well that's essentially moving on to "if". Why say a gay couple cannot adopt currently but can in the future "if society improves"?

It should be allowed anyway, it's just the way children are being brought up. Especially around my area; there are several gay people in my year at my school, and I have absolutely no problem with them. Will, who's in my form group is one of my best friends and we have a lot in common. Him being gay doesn't even enter my mind when I talk to him. He respects my orientation and I respect his.

However a lot of the kids in my year view him almost as a lower-race. It's disgusting really.

Yeah, but the only way society will improve in that situation is if homosexuals are allowed to adopt, because people will eventually accept it, for the most part anyway.

But yeah, Skype is right. The treatment of homosexuals is disgraceful. I live in a pretty.. bad area, full of BNP enthusiasts and racists, so you can imagine how people treat homosexuals. And it's kind of heart breaking to be hanging out with a homosexual person and having to watch people just barrage them with: 'YOU FUCKING QUEER GO SUCK A DICK!', and throw and spit at them as if they're worth less or something. Whenever I ask them if it bothers them, they normally shrug it off and just tell me they'll be laughing when they're successful and these people are bottom-dwellers.

Anyway, went of on a tangent there. I'm all for gay couples being able to adopt, but I think it'll be a LONG time before people accept it.

Re: Should gay people be able to adopt?

I have no problem with gays adopting children, but like Skype said, the kids would have harsh lives
with bullies and all. I don't see that changing in the future. As a highly intolerant society, there's no
way that any kids with two fathers or mothers could live normal lives.

There's an adopted kid with gay parents in the grade below me, and he is the most bullied
and mistreated child I've ever seen. He has counseling and doesn't function at all in society.

As long as the parents are willing to deal with the problems that they would cause
for any adopted children, then they should be allowed to have them if they want to.

That is right, but it is kinda sad what will happen to the children before this gets accept, and what if it doesn't? Well, I guess they can't hate on gay people for ever.
Black people have been descriminated since they came in as slaves, though, we are pretty much accepted as "afro-american" nowadays. This is an example of how our society can "improve".Although, Let's keep in mind that there will always be these punks who will never accept this kind of things. (different races, homosexuality etc etc)

Anybody should be able to adopt no matter race or sexuality.
