    Do you believe in..

Short summers and longer school sessions or short school sessions and long summers?

Reason asking this is because I live in California where budget cuts are happening. So they cut summer break this year, now it is only 1 month long instead of three months long. My Senior year is going to be so long

    Re: Do you believe in..

Why would they cut your summer break? The same amount of material should be being taught, the school will just have to pay extra salaries and bills for the 2 months they tacked on. That's no budget cut, that's an awkward stab in their own backs.

Otherwise, I'm always rushed during school so any vacation helps me keep my sanity. Long summers are great, but I'd rather cut the summer break and have a week of vacation every month for the next 4 years.

edit: actually, that would probably drive me more insane

Where I live the longer the summers are the more they have to pay. Also did i mention summer school was also cut, but they will only be a few spots open because they can't afford to have the teachers.

You're lucky our school starts August 11 and ends around mid June.

    Here let me show you:
Red indicates time in school while gray is our "summer"break.

January February March April May June July August September October November December

Sucks huh? One month of vacation :/

I don't think you are understanding properly or you're withholding information (intentional or unintentional). Having to pay money for your student's vacation breaks is a silly concept and I can't believe that it'd be true. Also, cutting two months of vacation is probably illegal, though I'm not sure given that you've not told us where you live. Due to that, I might well be wrong, but what you've told us so far sounds implausible.

Looks like your Summer has been terminated. (Sorry, I had to)

We get about 2 and a half months of Summer break here so all is good for me. I personally think it should go 9 months of school and 3 months of Summer break.

A lot of schools use the year round system. They tried to pass it in NY but people decided against it.

They are probably placing the lost time elsewhere in the year.
