    Racist/offensive/discriminating humor

What is your opinion? Is it alright to make jokes about people in less fortunate situations than yourself? Is it disrespectful to make jokes about large world events that have lead to the death of many people? Or do you believe everything should be able to be joked about?

Someones paid attention to the Joke thread.

I think it is disgraceful to make fun of those in worse situations. And creating jokes out of historical events where people have lost their lives (in massive numbers) and the majority of society was shocked by what has happened, it is among the lowest of lows.

I think people should be allowed to make possibly offensive jokes to a certain extend. For example, I don't mind fat jokes, even though they are often very mediocre. But when you pester someone who's actually fat, that's crossing the line for me. Basically when you're aware someone has really personal issues with a joke, you should try not to crack those jokes in front of them.

But then again, it really depends on how well someone can take it, I often (especially) tell black jokes when I'm around black people, but I know they can handle it. If this weren't the case, I wouldn't do so.

Also, it might be worth mentioning that offensive jokes are my favorite kind, humor-wise.

    That doesn't surprise me.

I pretty much agree with this, I would tell a fat joke to a fat person if I knew they were OK with it, they were my friend and if it was actually funny. Because nobody likes to be in the awkward situation where you tell a joke that offends someone, but it is incredibly unfunny and just mean.

There is a point where the offensiveness of the joke is so obscene that it becomes disgusting and horrible. eg: If a Pakistani and a black man jumped of a cliff without a parachute at the same time, who would survive?

    [spoiler:uju1wdtc]Who cares?

It was in a spoiler and it was supposed to be vile to put across my point, I obviously do not mean anything of the sort, don't be offended.[/spoiler:uju1wdtc]

As a fat person, I've got to say, if a fat joke is done well, it's hilarious, and far more so if it's directed at me.

You all know my stance on this, I find offensive humor just as good as any other, I don't find it especially funny, but I don't find it any less funny. I also know that you don't have to find something offensive just because it relates to you in some way, as evidenced by the above paragraph and that a friend of mine made a really awesome suicide joke just a few months after his attempt.

I also believe that free speech is a human right and should not be taken away for any reason by any means.

And one last thing, if a black man and a pakistani both jumped off a cliff without a parachute at the same time, who would survive?
[spoiler:3e7izhvf]The black man, cause he'd hit the ground running.[/spoiler:3e7izhvf]

    Re: Racist/offensive/discriminating humor

I have no problem with this sort of thing, I don't get offended easily and I don't understand other people really, so it creates a bit of a block for me socially I guess, But I deal with bad situations by making jokes and being humorous, I don't like being depressed. I also don't think jokes like this are bad as that's all they are, jokes, I mean, it's bad if you're deliberately being discriminatory to someone because of their race, that's just ridiculous. but if it's just a joke and you don't really mean it you just think it's a bit funny, no problem for me, carry on.

Aren't you so tough because you don't get offended easily. Please.
Black jokes I don't mind, its just the vilification of Holocaust and 9/11 jokes that really piss me off. Th fact of the matter is racism is bad, people did die when it came to the oppression of the African Americans, but no way near the amount they came from the oppression of the Jewish people in the Holocaust. I don't mind the big nose or greedy Jewish jokes (my mates actually call me Jew because I have a big nose and I'm always try to save money) but when it relates to a part of history where the entire world was shocked and in mourning for those who died, then I think it is completely out of line.

I don't mind offensive humor in any way unless it's personal. I think most of the time, people get upset about offensive jokes/pictures when they are ignorant on the situation IE: Amanda Todd or Adelia Rose.
