Not all of it's going to welfare though, and even if some of it is many more people are being helped than the system abusers.

If you are complaining about anything, you should be complaining about the rich that keep putting up the price of things such as electricity and water by ridiculous amounts. Electricity is okay, but only by a bit and water rates shouldn't go up nearly as much as they do. I think the rich in this country are far more of a problem than people living off of welfare.

Dole payments will always be an imperfect solution, by helping those with legitimate problems you will always aid those who can help themselves, in a perfect world each application would be thoroughly reviewed, but this is impractical.

It is far better to help a few people who might not deserve the help than to allow those who do to suffer.

At the end of the day it's a class game, the upper class will always claim that benefit payments are the reason taxes are so high whilst ignoring the fact that governments are needlessly bureaucratic and the fact that tax is not only lower than it could be but also quite easy to avoid if you're educated or have enough money to pay someone to do it for you.

This leads to the awkward situation with the middle class, who should they blame? Well the papers are telling them that Billy No-Job is living in a 2 bedroom house with a plasma screen TV without paying taxes, and the man on the television has just said that the number of unemployed people has risen by 2% in the last 6 months.

What they forgot to mention is that the editors of the newspaper just took home a 30% annual bonus that went tax free because it was performance based and paid from dividends that they also got tax free instead of coming from their salary, and the television company just reduced it's workforce so they can outsource it to a cheaper one in a different country; but you don't hear that because then maybe you'd think differently the next time you're at the ballot box.
