What if ice was denser than water?

Just think about that for a minute... Glaciers sinking... Earth flooding... ICE IN THE BOTTOM OF MY ROOTBEER!!! But, seriously, contemplate what it would be like if we had to live on water...

Well, if it just suddenly sank right now, most (or all) of earth would probably flood and we'd be pretty messed up.

If it had always been that way though, it'd pertty much be the same as it is now, only there wouldn't be any north or south poles.

If it were suddenly to change, the earth wouldn't flood. Why? well, the earth flooding is based on water displacement. It doesn't matter because glaciers are mostly underwater anyways. If they were denser, they sink more, and that's it. The oceans may actually get smaller, due to less water displacement. Also, it would suck having ice in the BOTTOM of your drink : P

Actually, I'd prefer having ice at the bottom. It always gets in my way when I'm trying to take a drink.

If water contracted upon cooling, then most of the physical reactions we rely on would never happen and we'd all die. THE END

    lol
Highly, sorry to tell you this, but the entire Arctic region is made up of ice, so if somehow the rules of chemistry were changed instantaneously around the world, there would be hardly any land left that wasn't covered by water.

But Highly was right about the root beer or whatever. It wouldn't be cold since heat rises and coldness sinks.

Personally, I'd just stick it in the freezer since the cooling system wouldn't be affected by that change. You'd have to wait longer, but I'm a very patient man. ))(*

Screw ice in my drink, dilutes the flavour (thanks you A&W)

Anyways if all of sudden the ice sank to the bottom and the earth flooded I would build a Ark and float and life and you guys while you drowned

If my ice sank to the bottom of my drink i would use a straw, simple enough no?

But if ice did sink, what whoever said is true, it is all based on water displacement so the lakes and oceans would lower because there is less on top of the water to spread it out and more under giving the water more room. I know it sounds messed up but it's true :/

This is my new edit color, do not take it #A89737

If ice was denser, there'd be no life on earth.

Well...considering the laws of nature can't spontaneously change...I'm not too worried.

But if since the dawn of time, ice was denser than water...well...we'd just have evolved/been created differently. Easy as that.
I am going to start using pivot again! Because I spent a long time away from this forum...
