    Half Life help?

Ok, I recently downloading steam in search of some new PC games. I was interested in Garry's Mod, and I knew it had something to do with Half Life games. So I search in Half Life and get about 10 results for the same game. Half Life 1 and 2, Half Life source, Half Life Death match, etc... anybody want to explain this for me?

half-life 1 is the original, it came out in '98 i think
half-life 2 is the newest full game, it came out in '04 (you'll need the full version of this to use garry's mod by the way)
half-life: source is half life 1 with slightly updated graphics
deathmatch is a multiplayer version of half-life 2, it comes free with halflife 2.

I think that was all of them. There's also an 'episode 1' that's an expansion to half-life 2

    and physic.
Episode 1 is not an actual expansion because you don't need half-life 2 to play it.
I would call it a sequel...

Ok thanks for the help, and to Toasty:

It says that Half Life 2 is not required for Garry's Mod but you need a game that includes source SDK, there's 5 of them. So I'm going to try to get the CSS + GMod package.

Oh yeah, sorry. I forgot for Gmod 10 (just called garry's mod though) you don't need HL2.
Definitely go for the gmod+CSS combo like you said, they're both good games, and really cheap now as well.

seriously the violence is toned down, and i'm pretty sure it has a child thing that takes away the blood.

plus M rated games aren't that bad

Source doesn't have an option to turn blood off, in 1.6 there is though.
Good luck with getting it though.

You'll need to use console commands.
turn on the console from the 'advanced' button in keyboard options, then while in game, hit ~ and type in 'violence_'
You can then click on each one seperately and set them to 0 (they'll be set to 1 at first)

    That works in half-life 2 at least, I don't know about CS:S
