    Best Anti-Virus Program?

I've been told AVG takes up a lot of resources, norton does something else... eh, I dunno. I'd appreciate it if someone could tell me which anti virus thingy they use, specifically one that doesn't lag your computer to the point where it's barely usable. Thanks.

    Re: Best Anti-Virus Program?

I personally hate all antivirus programs, I created a thread about it like a year back. The best free one I know of is Avira. People say Avast is one of the best, but it annoys the hell out of me with its spinning checker icon in the taskbar, plus it takes an age for it to do a full system scan, not the mention it more resourcey than others.

Avira doesnt eat up hardly and resources, pretty much daily updates {or when you want to download them} and its also fast in comparision to others at doing a full system scan. The only small downside is when your updating it will show an advert normally telling you to get the premium package, but its not too much bother.

I'm using it on 4 machines at home, works quite well.

I use AVG and I think it's fantastic.
I also have Spybot which is pretty cool.

    I'd recommend AVG though.

I have something that you download from a disk.
It's nice and it's called eTrust Personal Firewall and Spyware blocker.
it takes a little long to scan but thats it.It's not that much either.Try it (Although it takes away the ability to see gifs on some browsers :C )

I use the following: Spyware Doctor, AVG, Avast

Spyware Doctors with AVG does wonders for my computer when it comes to scanning and getting rid of trojans

    Re: Best Anti-Virus Program?

No antivirus program is perfect. All of them are better or worse in some regards. Norton probably has the most powerful features (lots of money for R&D) but eats up resources like nothing else. Some free antivirus software might use barely any memory at all, but because it's free will have pretty lacking protection.

I've heard people recommend Avira like DD said, but I never really tried it.

Mr. Freeware Fanatic to the rescue:

I've tried tonnes, and I ended up using AVG because it's the fastest. I don't know where you heard that it's a resource hog, because it's better than all the others.

Avira has the best definitions so it can get a hold of more issues than it's competition and I don't really know what's so good about Avast. I didn't really use it for long.
