    GTA IV Requirements.

Wow. You know, I was very surprised that I couldn't barely run GTA IV on my computer.

    Specs:

    Ram: 8gb
    CPU: 2.3 GHz
    VRam: 256mb (That's what's catching me)
    HDD:750gb SATA (RAID 1+0)

I'm just appalled by the requirements of GTA IV. I honestly thought I would run it decently. I'm upgrading my video card now (I have a 2gb coming in the mail) . Can anybody here actually run this? If so, please post specs for my benefit.

GTA sluggish performance isn't exactly due to outstanding graphics, but because it was ported poorly. So unless you are willing to pay +250$ for Nvidia latest GPU, you won't be able to run it decently.

If you have a video card with 256mb of ram, that's probably your problem. GTA IV has ridiculous gpu requirements on the PC, so that was a good place to start.

Quad core CPU's aren't as good as fast dual cores for gaming, and that one's not even that great of a quad core, but it shouldn't be enough of a problem for GTA IV to hardly run.

You can't ride a bike without the chain. Get a better graphics card, then you might have a chance.

Alright, well, I'm now completely convinced that it's because of bad coding in the game.

I can run Crysis on with all medium settings except Physics and Game effects which are high with a constant of ~25 fps. Makes me think if there are other games like that.

I can run Crysis with those settings on my $800 laptop and get consistently above 30fps, but I doubt I could run GTA IV smoothly.

Yeah, GTA IV is coded pretty badly since it's a port, and because of that, they dumped most of the load on the easiest thing, the graphics card.
