    Portal Help

I TRIED GOOGLE. NOTHING HAD A STRAIGHT ANSWER, OR AN ANSWER THAT HELPED.

Ok, so I thought about trying Portal, so I got the demo to see if things would be okay on my computer. But when I had the demo and Portal itself downloaded, I played the game, and after the Valve screen and the Powered by Source, it closes and says "Could not load library client". I tried making a desktop shortcut, with the same result. I tried playing in windowed mode ( -windowed ) with the same result.

    Any help?

    Re: Portal Help

    Install/Update DirectX.

Failing that you probably can't run it.

I have a similar issue, except its says that hl2.exe failed, apparently it's common...

    Re: Portal Help

It says hl2.exe has stopped working properly from time to time on my portal, but usually only when I use cheats, so it's probably not the same thing. Download the newest DirectX version (I think 11).

    Re: Portal Help

I wouldn't use that website. It's not really that accurate at all in determining what you can run and not. I would just check your requirements against the game. Like chim said apparently it's a common issue so you may have to wait for a patch.

    Re: Portal Help

If you are running on Intel Chipset, your computer most likely cannot handle the game's graphics because they are the shittiest cards next to something running on Windows 98. Plus, are you running on a desktop or are you using a laptop?

    Re: Portal Help

I'm running on a desktop, I also had the hl2.exe error, but I fixed that somehow, I don't recall how.

Just making sure I'm doing the right thing, THIS is the DirectX you're talking about? If so, where should I go from there?

    Re: Portal Help

No difference. I did mention this was the demo of Portal, right? (First Slice)

Does anybody have any idea for what I should do?

Not double posting, firstly. Posts have an edit button for a reason.
Secondly, growing a brain might help. You have to post the results of the dxdiag, as in, the actual text it gives you after it runs. Not just type that in and think it'd magically fix Portal. Christ.
thirdly, just install the newest DirectX already, it won't hurt to update. Seriously, things could only get better.
