Both 1 and 2 are great, It doesn't really matter which one you play. RCT 2 has a little more options and things you can build, but is further the exact same, both gameplay and graphics wise. I would recommend RCT 2 if you want to free-build, and RTC 1 if you just want to beat all the levels because it's more based on unlocking new maps.

Don't play RollerCoaster Tycoon 3, it seriously fucked up everything good about the game.

Ah bastard I forgot about the countless Tycoon games, especially the rollercoaster ones. I've played a couple of them previously and they're all oddly nice to play, even zoo tycoon was fun ahaha. Thanks for reminding me

I'm sure I can pick them up at a good price too.

Theme Hospital

Seriously my most appreciated game ever. You basically run a hospital like any other tycoon game, but there are extremely weird and enjoyable illnesses.
See for yourself, It might be my nostalgia, but I really think it's an epic game.

I recommend Zoo Tycoon to everyone. Only played through the tutorial but the nostalgia is flowing and it's as good as I remember it being

Oh god, I love the Rollercoaster games, especially RCT 3.
I don't see why you think it's bad.
The graphics are actually pretty good, and you have alot of new features.
The rollercoaster camera is quite funny too.

Great game in my opinion.

Just tried out RCT2 and have no desire for RCT3 because 2 is fucking awesome

As a game itself it may be good, but I don't think it can compare with 1 and 2.
Those games were so much fun, the music, graphics, gameplay, fat little guys visiting your park.
I think many of those good things about 1 & 2 have changed so much in Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 that it can't be called a "sequel". They've made a game that is theoretically better, but less fun.

RCT 2 is one of the best games ever made.

RCT 3 still is fun tho but i dislike the 3D perspective, wasnt really that necessary if you ask me.

As for recommendation, if you have a fucking ton of freetime and a good imagination, play some Dwarf Fortress.
