    Music/genres you came to appreciate

I remember a few years ago, I was very ignorant about rap and the such, but now I like quite a few rap artists such as Immortal Technique, Tech N9ne, etc.

So what music genres did you have misconceptions about, or didn't like and now listen to?

I'm not ignorant to rap, I'm ignorant to rap with no reason. Stuff like that video from Bliss and Eso I love. It's that "bang bang I'm gonna fuck dese hoes nd shoot u fo ur monies" that I can't fucking stand.

Every other musical genre I just don't enjoy listening to, like rock etc.

Grindcore was a genre it took me a little while to truly appreciate, but I do now, and lots of people still don't lol.

1990's Rap was very solid and I came to appreciate it, I seriously don't know what happened. There are few artists who still manages to make decent albums, but still. I'm not always talking about good lyrical rap. Hell, DR.Dre made one of the greatest rap album of all time and almost all of his greatest hits talks about you know what. His strength was more in his beat, he is great a making a good and non-generic beat.

I came to like reggae, I regarded it as a dark subculture, but I was 8, lol. I also came to like techno, and ragtime.

Classical music in general. I mean, as a kid I would go "COOL BEETHOVEN 5 AWESOME" and could stand stuff by him, Mozart or Bach, but I completely hated anything that didn't sound extremely happy. Once I was sort of forced to learn to play late romantic stuff on the piano though, I found that while it didn't sound nearly as nice, more modern music was really awesome to play and had a lot more to it than you could catch on your first listen. Hell, I'd say Prokofiev is probably one of my favorite musicians ever, and I wouldn't have been able to sit through a piece by him 5 years ago.

Death metal. I used to absolutely hate it and couldn't stand it. But now, I love the extreme instrumental ability and the speed.

    Hip-Hop

I used to hate all rap, because I was an angry metal head teen

In the past few years, I have come to fucking love Hip-Hop, though. I still don't dig mainstream much, because it's all the same usually. The only mainstream Hip-Hop artists I like are Lupe Fiasco and Jay-Z.

I pretty much love all underground Hip-Hop, though. The flow of the lyrics, and the mix's get me. I can even say I like Hip-Hop more than metal, now. Hip-Hop lyrics usually make me think more, and actually inspire me.

I have also come to enjoy Classical music, too. Before I thought it was really boring, but it's actually gorgeous.
