    Careers in Animation

So everyone obviously knows that animation is a career. With the rise of Pivot, animation has become mainstream and mostly just a hobby for people. However, I actually am considering going into animation as a career when I get older.
So here's the question: Is Pivot just a hobby for you, or are you practicing for something bigger?

    Re: Careers in Animation

I'm planning on going to university for a animation course, but if you want to become an animator don't stick with Pivot expriment, try traditional animation, flash, stop motion try all forms of animation and keep drawing and i recommend taking a life drawing class. These are all the basics that could help improve your chances to go to a university.

One of the unis i've applied for has said for the portfolio they would like to see
1: Thorough sketchbook work indicating private stufy and an interest in animation
2: Research study portfolio and observational drawing
3: Life Drawing Portfolio and observational drawing
4: Storyboard ideas and sketchbook of film visuals.
5: DVD Showreel, if possible but not compulsory (no longer then 5 mins)

    Re: Careers in Animation

Ive always dreamed to take animation further into a career. But I highly doubt it will happen. I do pivot because I enjoy it and it shows my creativity. And I don't really have anything else to do on my computer.
    So both.

Thanks for the comment Simon. ^^

With your Pivot animations being that good, just think of how good your animations will be if you go into 3D or something D

Yeah, I'd like to get something in the realms of both animation and game design. I'm hoping to go to Dundee University when I'm older, I've heard great things and thsome of the courses there I'd really like to go for.

    Re: Careers in Animation

I would like a career in Animation but I could do better things. I mainly do Pivot 4 fun. When i was a kid I used to wonder how they made cartoons, then i found out the frame by frame thing. And then finally Pivot. The only thing other than Pivot I might do is Flash, once i learn it.

I would like a career in Animating, but isn't it really really hard to get a job because everyone wants to do the same thing..?

Yeah, but I'm hoping for some computer/animating job in the future.
