    Get rid of Recycle bin (lock please)

    First off this is Windows XP Professional.

    [tn=650:3nxunmu3]http://**********.com/img/1240172496.png[/tn:3nxunmu3]

    I am an administrator on this computer and I want to remove the recycle bin from my desktop, XP doesn't let you just delete the icon because people wouldn't know how to bring it back. So they disabled it.

    Instead: according to tweakxp.com ( http://www.tweakxp.com/article36805.aspx )

    You can go to Start > Run > gpedit.msc
    From there you can go to Administrative Templates > Desktop
    In there there should be settings on removing the Recycle Bin Icon.

    But the Desktop option is not there. At least for me.
    Anybody know why this is happening to me?

    Or you can go to My Computer > Up > Then select Recycle Bin and move it to a differant folder.

    Re: Get rid of Recycle bin

    That just creates a shortcut.

    Windows XP doesn't let you do this through normal UI.
    Don't give me answers if you haven't tried it first.

    And I don't want your sympathy if you use vista.

    PS: If you guys also know any other method of getting rid of the icon without killing the registry that would be nice.

    Try what it says there, I could find the file but I don't know what would happen and I want to keep recycle bin. So just try it.

    Open Registry Editor by going to Start > Run > Regedit
    Go to this directory
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Explorer > Desktop > NameSpace

    Then delete, or export in case you want it back, this file: {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}

    I think you can just move the file/export it if you want the file back. Or just backup all the registry files.

    Also why do you want this?

    Re: Get rid of Recycle bin

    1. I have family members that use this computer, and if they don't know where the Recycle Bin is then they will freak. Deleting the registry will muck up the setting for everyone.

    2. I want this because I prefer a minimalistic desktop, and the icon just makes everything look fuck ugly.

    3. I have a dock icon for recycle bin.

    [s:1ed5uqfm]Can you give me a good answer that allows me to DISABLE it for me rather then REMOVE it?[/s:1ed5uqfm]

    EDIT: NEVERMIND

    Right Click > Arrange Icons By > Uncheck show desktop icons.
