    Mouse 'unplugging' itself

After a random amount of time, sometimes between the space of a few seconds my mouse will 'unplug' itself from my computer, that is keeping it physically in the USB port but unplugging from the system, and not registering as being plugged in. A couple of seconds later it plugs itself back in. It doesn't matter which USB port, or mouse I use, it does the same thing. Anything else I plug in (tablet etc) doesn't suffer from this issue.
I'm using Windows XP with Service Pack 2, don't really know anything about the drivers but yep, any help would be appreciated.

Reinstall the drivers for your mouse.

If that doesn't work it's probably an issue with the cable, and you'll need a new one.
