    Blank Explorer Program Running?

    [center:1k4shhhi][/center:1k4shhhi]

There it is. It's like a segment of a window without the close, maximise or minimise buttons. No content in the window either. I can drag it around but I can't close it. It even has a corresponding task in the taskbar. That can't be interacted with, just clicked a fuckload.

Was wondering if anyone recognises this as anything malicious? I've had it about a week now and it hasn't done anything. Computer is still running at top speed, everything is performing perfectly. There's no corresponding process in the task manager. Nothing that stands out anyway. If it's a virus disguising itself as svchost/csrss.exe etc, anyone with previous experience can confirm that for me.

AND YES, I GOOGLED IT FIRST. GOD.

    Thanks in advance.

Looks like a complete pain in the ass

Do you have 2 of the same process running? See how much memory they're using and screenshot it and/or tell me how much.

Have you run a virus scan
    or
    ctrl+alt+delete'd to end the task?

no i dont recognize it, but it seems like
a lot of new viruses are getting around now.
i wouldnt be too worried about it, if it happened to me

Is it still there after shutting down your computer? If it is, then go into the control panel and check the startup programs. There might be some kind of hint in there.

    I have 2 rundll32.exe's:

I know that's usually spyware or similar. The one without the description is probably the offending process. If I ended that process would it do much harm to the computer? What's catching my eye is svchost.exe, almost 26k memory usage? Is that right?

    Re: Blank Explorer Program Running?

I would check if those two rundll32.exe's are both legitimate versions. I'm sure there's a rundll32 scan out there, just Google that. I don't think the svchost is anything to worry about, and from what I know, it's almost the same as a rundll32 program. Try a "running processes scan", and see if anything comes up.

E: And did you check Safe Mode yet?

That looks kinda normal for svchost, try ending the one without a description, theres certainly not rundll.32's running at the same time, or they shouldn't be anyways, if all else fails, and safe mode doesn't work, google fails you completely, and you canno't find the problem at all, you could try wiping the hard drive, which would be INSANELY stupid for a little window.

Edit: I have 2 rundll.32's....No problems for me though, let me run avira to make sure

    Re: Blank Explorer Program Running?

Well this is really weird, I ended a load of system-critical processes like csrss.exe, rundll32.exe (both of them), then opened up the show processes from all users thing, ended about 20 more rundll32's, another csrss.exe, then the pc finally crashed. When it rebooted, the mysterious window disappeared. Woohoo! No doubt it'll be back again soon but temporary solutions ftw. The best form of defense is offense lol
