A Joint is when you and another animator combine animations to make one. They want the animation to be all you in the Best Beginner Competition. A collab is the same thing as a joint but a person with over 200 posts hosts it. You and other people join, each person makes a animation, they send it in before the due date, then the host puts all the .piv files in one, then it's a collab.

Yeah pretty much what the above poster said. A joint is where two or more animators work on one animation, and keep taking turns to animate bit by bit.
A collab is organised in the Pivot Organisation area. If you want to join a collab, you need to have all the skills the hoster has listed. For instance, if he puts 'Intermediates and above' it means anyone below intermediate aren't allowed to join.
Once all the animations are completed and sent to the flasher (Which is the person who puts all the animations together in one video, and adds music etc) than he releases the video when he has finished flashing it.
If you need examples, you will find all the best collabs hosted Here.

A collab is a flashed video where a bunch of animators come together and make an animation to go into a video that shows the best entrants for the collab and makes one big video of a bunch of animators animations
A joint is when ppl take turns animating to make an animation
