    New Top Level Domains

The ICANN had a meeting on June 26th, 2009, and they have decided that it's time for some new top level domains.

So, what does this mean? It means you can get domains such as

    .berlin
    .newyork
    or even .ebay

Even new fonts will like arabic and cyrillic are supported.

    About ICANN:

ICANN is responsible for the global coordination of the Internet's system of unique identifiers like domain names (like .org, .museum and country codes like .uk) and the addresses used in a variety of Internet protocols that help computers reach each other over the Internet. Careful management of these resources is vital to the Internet's operation, so ICANN's global stakeholders meet regularly to develop policies that ensure the Internet's ongoing security and stability. ICANN is an internationally organized, public benefit non-profit company. For more information please visit: www.icann.org.

It doesn't affect me and therefore I don't care. I'll stick with my .net, kthx.

I heard they were going to accept anykind of suffix later, such as I could have a website like this:

    Re: New Top Level Domains

I'm not in the least bit excited.

There are already a huge amount of different top level domains, yet no one really uses them.
When was the last time you saw a .asia, .aero, or .museum?

They exist, but no one uses them, therefore we don't need anymore location specific TLDs.

I myself currently own 5 domains, and I can assure you that sticking with the good ol' .com, .net, and .org has been working fine for me.

EDIT: For anyone who wants a list of the current TLDs available -

So are they just adding to the list or are they actually giving free reign to the TLDs like the second-level domains?
