    MySQL Storing Large Numbers

    Using PHP-myadmin, I'm trying to store a number as big as 9,999,999 using the BIGINT type. An error message appears and tells me that the max range is 255, whereas numerous websites I've been on say that the max range is 9,223,372,036,854,775,808. Does this mean that the max amount of digits is 255, or the actual size of the number?

    225 is number length, not the max limit.

    Ie;
    Code:
    BIGINT(4)

    Max length possible;
    1234
