    A question.

    So i am very new to webcoding, but im trying my hardest to master html so i have been trying to code as much as i can. So far i have coded to little sights, there's nothing really too them, just me trying to understand the table setup to making web layouts and maybe a few <p style="font-family:verdana;"></p> ectttt. but when i save the file as a .html (using textedit for mac) and then load it in my browser, its all text. I uploaded the files to dd so you can see for your elf....what am i doing wrong?

    Well it seems when i save it, i must of done something wrong because when i reloaded the file into textedit, i got this.

    Code:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd">
    <html>
    <head>
      <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8">
      <meta http-equiv="Content-Style-Type" content="text/css">
      <title></title>
      <meta name="Generator" content="Cocoa HTML Writer">
      <meta name="CocoaVersion" content="949.54">
      <style type="text/css">
        p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Helvetica}
        p.p2 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Helvetica; min-height: 14.0px}
      </style>
    </head>
    <body>
    <p class="p1">&lt;html&gt;</p>
    <p class="p1">&lt;body&gt;</p>
    <p class="p1">&lt;title&gt;</p>
    <p class="p1">Aaron's Html Doc</p>
    <p class="p1">&lt;/title&gt;</p>
    <p class="p1">&lt;/body&gt;</p>
    <p class="p1">&lt;body&gt;</p>
    <p class="p2">
    </p>
    <p class="p1">&lt;table width="550" border="0"</p>
    <p class="p1">&lt;tr&gt;</p>
    <p class="p1">&lt;td colspan="3" style="background-color:#00688B;"&gt;</p>
    <p class="p1">&lt;p style="font-family:verdana;text-align:center;font-size:30px;"&gt;</p>
    <p class="p1">Aaron Carroll</p>
    <p class="p1">&lt;/td&gt;</p>
    <p class="p1">&lt;/tr&gt;</p>
    <p class="p2">
    </p>
    <p class="p1">&lt;tr&gt;</p>
    <p class="p1">&lt;td style="width:35px;background-color:#00688B;"&gt;</p>
    <p class="p1">&lt;/td&gt;</p>
    <p class="p1">&lt;td style="width:440px;height:300px;background-color:#ADD8E6;"&gt;</p>
    <p class="p1">&lt;p style="text-align:center"&gt;</p>
    <p class="p1">Shatter your reality.</p>
    <p class="p1">&lt;/p&gt;</p>
    <p class="p1">&lt;/td&gt;</p>
    <p class="p1">&lt;td style="width:35px;background-color:#00688B;"&gt;</p>
    <p class="p1">&lt;/td&gt;</p>
    <p class="p1">&lt;/tr&gt;</p>
    <p class="p2">
    </p>
    <p class="p1">&lt;tr&gt;</p>
    <p class="p1">&lt;td colspan="3" style="background-color:#00688B;height:35px;"&gt;</p>
    <p class="p1">&lt;p style="font-family:arial;text-align:center;"&gt;</p>
    <p class="p1">2011</p>
    <p class="p1">&lt;/td&gt;</p>
    <p class="p1">&lt;/tr&gt;</p>
    </body>
    </html>
    Which is just basically all my code in paragraph tags...

    Re: A question.

    Did you make sure it says "all files" instead of "txt files"? Also your code uses a lot of outdated and poor techniques. Nobody uses tables(for layout design) or inline styles.
    http://css-tricks.com/video-screencasts-4/ Has a few beginner tutorials
    http://net.tutsplus.com/category/tutori ... ?tag=basix Also has a few nice ones.
    http://epyks.net (Skypes site) has a couple of templates you can download and look at.

    [s:20621qy7]Download Notepad++, and do all your coding in there from now on; You won&#39;t have to worry about accidentally saving your html files in txt format.[/s:20621qy7]

    Just read that you're using a mac; Try something like textwrangler instead.

    Re: A question.

    W3 is great for learning syntax and tags but I wouldn't rely on it for learning how to code.

    Did your preferences look like this?

    Because if not thats the problem.

    I also use textedit, these photos are taken from an old mac that we no longer have.

    w3schools is kinda outdated. I would recommend you find a different site to learn html. It's actually very simple once you get used to it.

    Re: A question.

    W3shcools is not outdated! I think it's very helpful and if you can find me a better site I'll eat my hat.

    I think the try-it-yourself helped the most, as by fiddling around with the code I got a feel for how it all works.

    But the way they explained it to was great.

    Seriously though, if anyone does find a better site I'd love to hear.
