Update your page in what way? If you want to update the content of your site, you can install blog or content streaming software onto your page, which will allow you to edit and add new content by logging into a back-end on your server. If you mean altering the actual design and function of the site; php, html and css files can be opened and edited in virtually any text editor.

yeah i did mean adding new content and stuff, thanks heaps for the help. still going to keep this open until the site is working fully

You should have at least taught yourself basic HTML and CSS before putting any money into a domain name and hosting. You can still test websites locally on your own computer, without the need for hosting.

The domain cost me $7 and the hosting is free.

The website is up, but I am still editing it http://www.jonedwardswriting.com

    Re: Creating a Website

If it came up with an error you did it wrong. Like I said, learning a coding language helps when you're coding.

Tables are a very very very very very very old way of displaying sections in HTML. They're generally frowned upon and don't validate. Div tags are easier and cleaner.
